In her artistic practice, Lies Caeyers explores how identity can be constructed, distorted, and believed through images, objects, and techniques.
She works with a self-developed structure from which her thinking and making unfold:
Origin, Kabinet, Studio, Lab, and Factory.
In Origin, it becomes visible how a person appears, is captured, and can function as image, code, or model.
In Kabinet, objects are collected and arranged into systems in which identity settles and shifts.
In Studio, knowledge and technique are used as instruments to develop meaning and to shape oneself within a tradition.
In Lab, the individual is subjected to systems larger than itself, and seeks a position within them.
In Factory, the subject is brought into circulation, between brand, product, and consumption.
