Starting from her own body, memories, and collections, Lies Caeyers uses her own position as a testing ground to explore broader mechanisms of identitification and visual representation. Her work shows how identity is not a fixed concept, but emerges through experience and materialisation. The individual does not function as an endpoint, but as a carrier within systems of representation, reproduction and circulation.

She works in an ongoing interplay between techniques and materials, moving between digital and analogue, art and craft, industrial and manual processes. Some techniques are applied in depth, others deliberately in a fragmentary way, which in turn shapes scale and form. At the same time, she shifts between roles, from collector to maker, designer, conservator and researcher, and between artist, subject and object, where these boundaries continuously shift as well.
 

Lies Caeyers completed two master’s degrees in fine arts at Sint Lucas Antwerp and Konstfack Stockholm, and is also trained as a goldsmith. In her work, she combines craft-based techniques with processes such as scanning, 3D printing and coding.
